I feel like there’s no reason I shouldn’t jump on this, except for the inconvenience of traveling 2 hours to look at/retrieve a vehicle right now.

But I’m struggling to figure out just what I’m looking at in this photo.

Looks like carpet, maybe they did it to keep something out of there when it was sitting? No idea really.

I wanted to say something helpful but all I have to offer is this J20. $5,800 and room for negotiation with a rusted out bed.

Kinja'd!!!

I was looking at Cherokee prices and dang have they shot through the roof. Even just since the winter, it seems like everyone is asking crazy high prices for junkers.

A nice one that isn’t at all what you are looking for and is still stupidly expensive.

I think attrition has really done a number on what people think they have.

https://knoxville.craigslist.org/cto/d/lenoir-city-1998-jeep-cherokee-4x4/7156762447.html

This crap 2wd is not much less than what I would expect a crap 4wd to go for. What on earth? And none are manuals.

OK, last one I promise. I actually found a good deal I think.

If I wanted a J-series I’d grab this one. Still can’t believe how cheap it is.

I’m almost certainly going to regret not grabbing this manual XJ, but travel is just such a pain right now.

I’m going to go with carpet as well. My 93 must have been in a flood or something because it was similar. Carpet sat on muffler after a trip to the badlands and soldered and essentially caught fire. I cut the carpet out and there wasn’t much floorboards left.

For $850, if the unibody isn’t compromised by rust, that is a good deal. You’d want to pour quite a bit into it before relying on it though. It can’t possibly be as deep of a money pit as the LJ.

I saw a really nice rust free J10 for like 4k but that went fast. The middle ground of good drivers are getting really hard to find.

Pretty sure that’s the carpet and padding hanging down where the floor was before it returned to earth, looks pretty typical for an XJ around here

Uh, given the chassis’ propensity to roll over and dislodge parts, yes, the “suggestion”, as an attempt at levity, was that the hood insulation pad came loose and ended up under  the pile of debris.

Lame, perhaps, but it makes as much sense as why the interior carpet is UNDERNEATH the car.

But maybe “it’s a Jeep thing”, ‘cause I’m a Land Cruiser guy and I don’t understand Jeeple at all.
